Chan Sui Ki (La Salle) College has a rich tradition in sports, with numerous students passionate about athletics and many talents emerging over the years. Our teams often make their mark in inter-school sports competitions, winning countless awards. Behind this great strength lies the efforts of our teachers who have proven themselves indispensable. Chief among whom is the legendary Mr Michael O'Brien from Ireland who stands out in the realm of physical education.

From the school's founding, Mr O'Brien taught at CSK for many decades. He devoted himself tirelessly to promote CSK's sports development, enlightening countless athletes, achieving brilliant team results, and even privately sponsoring students to compete in competitions abroad. His charisma and humorous demeanour led many young students to not only enjoy his classes, but also to fall in love with sports, and benefit from this kindled passion throughout their lives. He spent his latter years residing in Hong Kong.

Mr. O'Brien's contribution to CSK sports, like his witty character and trademark beard, is forever memorable. The excellent sports tradition he established for CSK throughout most of his life's work, like the baton in a relay, must be carried forward by us.

To support the school's gymnasium expansion project and sports development, we are now launching a fundraising initiative named the O’Brien Sports Development Initiative in memory of Mr. O'Brien. All funds raised will be used entirely for the gymnasium and to support the school's sports development in the following ways:

1. By expanding the existing gymnasium, renaming it the O’Brien Gym, and allocating space to memorialise Mr O'Brien through pictures, text, and artefacts, to bequeath his spirit to future generations.
2. Procurement of gymnasium equipment for the school team's key training requirements, physical fitness tests for all students, and enabling students to establish healthy lifestyles through the promotion of fitness education.
3. Support Sports Development through subsidising of extra coaching, training equipment, venue fees; and encourage outstanding athletes to bring glory to the school.
4. Support team building, cultivate team leaders, and strengthen cohesion.
